Yankee draftees in the College World Series
Taylor Holiday, 1B, UC Irvine (19th): 0 for 4, 3 K in Irvine’s 7-1 loss to Oregon State
Matt Morris, LF, UC Irvine (23rd): 0 for 3, 1 BB
UC Irvine couldn’t find the magic this game, putting up little fight after playing extra inning games the last 2 days. After going 10-14 in conference play, Oregon State is going to the CWS Finals for the second year in a row. They’re sitting nice and pretty – the rotation is lined up and the players get an extra day off by taking care of business today. OSU has not been behind in the score since June 5th, a span of nearly 50 innings.
UNC housed Rice 6-1 earlier in the day, so they’ve got to face off tomorrow to see who faces OSU. If UNC wins tomorrow, it’ll be the first time in CWS history that there’s a rematch of the Championship series from the year before. Joe Savery vs. The Truth, with Adam Warren set to go an extended stint for UNC if needed, and Bobby Bramhall & Cole St. Clair well rested for Wayne Graham’s Owls. Gonna be a great one, game starts at 7pm EST.
