Got a series of infield promotions, courtesy of Josh Norris: IF Francisco Rosario to Low-A Charleston, 2B Rob Refnsyder to High-A Tampa, and IF Ali Castillo to Double-A Trenton. All the second basemen moved up a level, basically. Hopefully that’s not bad news for 2B Angelo Gumbs, who is on the Tampa DL.
Triple-A Scranton (5-4 loss to Rochester)
- 2B Corban Joseph: 2-5, 1 R, 1 2B — seven hits in his last 19 at-bats (.368) with two doubles and a homer
- 3B David Adams: 2-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K —seven hits in his last 13 at-bats (.538)
- LF Zoilo Almonte: 1-5, 1 2B
- CF Melky Mesa: 3-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI — seven hits in his last 13 at-bats (.538) and he hasn’t struck out in three games now … how about that?
- RHP Dellin Betances: 4 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 1 WP, 5/1 GB/FB — 45 of 76 pitches were strikes (59%)
Double-A Trenton (15-14 loss to Erie)
- CF Slade Heathcott: 0-6, 3 K, 2 E (fielding, throwing) — no hits, but he did throw a runner out at the plate
- LF Ramon Flores: 2-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K — four straight two-hit games
- RF Tyler Austin: 2-4, 2 R, 2 BB — second straight two-walk game
- C J.R. Murphy: 4-5, 3 R, 3 HR, 5 RBI — he hit nine homers all of last year … he’s off to a huge start this year and it’s great to see, the Yankees need one of their young catchers to emerge
- 1B Kyle Roller: 2-6, 2 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 2 K
- 3B Rob Segedin: 3-4, 3 R, 1 2B, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 E (fielding) — awesome night, except that the error led to the game-losing run
- LHP Matt Tracy: 3 IP,9 H, 10 R, 10 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 1 HB, 4/0 GB/FB — 46 of 79 pitches were strikes (58%) … DotF hasn’t seen many starts uglier than that through the years
- RHP Tommy Kahnle: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 1/0 GB/FB — only 15 of 33 pitches were strikes (45%)
High-A Tampa (13-7 win over Daytona)
- CF Mason Williams: 1-3, 1 R, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 3 BB — seven hits in his last 17 at-bats (.411)
- LF Ben Gamel: 2-3, 3 R, 2 3B, 3 BB, 1 SB — still think two triples is cooler than two homers … helluva night
- C Gary Sanchez: 2-4, 3 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB, 1 E (catcher interference) — picked a runner off first with a snap throw
- 3B Anderson Feliz: 2-6, 1 R, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 2 K
- SS Carmen Angelini: 3-5, 2 R, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 2 K, 1 E (fielding)
- RHP Mikey O’Brien: 2 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 1/1 GB/FB
Low-A Charleston (8-6 loss to Hickory)
- SS Cito Culver: 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 BB
- 1B Greg Bird: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K
- 3B Dante Bichette Jr.: 0-4, 1 RBI — three hits in his last 30 at-bats
- C Peter O’Brien: 2-4, 1 R, 2 2B, 1 PB — four passed balls already
- RHP Jose Campos: 3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 WP, 1/3 GB/FB — I assume he’ll start stretching out a bit in a few weeks, seems like all the young pitchers are on tighter than usual pitch counts so far … maybe that’s a Gil Patterson thing?
- LHP Evan Rutckyj: 4 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 4 WP, 2/3 GB/FB — not sure I’ve ever seen four wild pitches by one pitcher before
