Sabathia rocked as Rays take series finale

According to Nick Cafardo, RHP Chris Bootcheck as a late-June opt-out date in his contract. The 34-year-old came into Sunday’s start with a 2.80 ERA and 3.73 FIP in 45 innings for Triple-A Scranton. He hasn’t appeared in a big league game since 2009 and I don’t expect the Yankees to add him to the big league roster regardless of well he pitches. If Bootcheck finds a team willing to bring him to the show next month, he’ll be a goner.

Triple-A Scranton (7-3 win over Durham)

  • 2B Corban Joseph: 0-5, 1 RBI, 1 E (fielding)
  • DH Thomas Neal: 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HBP
  • LF Zoilo Almonte: 2-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — seven hits in his last 23 at-bats (.304)
  • RF Ronnie Mustelier: 2-5, 1 R — 18 hits in his last 39 at-bats (.462)
  • CF Melky Mesa: 0-5, 2 K — 74 strikeouts and five walks in 48 games
  • RHP Chris Bootcheck: 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 9/4 GB/FB — 59 of 91 pitches were strikes (64%) … and the ERA goes up
  • RHP Chase Whitley: 1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 1/0 GB/FB — eleven of 18 pitches were strikes (61%)

Double-A Trenton (8-5 win over Bowie)

  • LF Ramon Flores: 1-5, 2 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 2 K — grand slam was his first homer of the year, and it also turned a 5-4 deficit into an 8-5 lead in the ninth … also threw a runner out at the plate
  • CF Slade Heathcott: 0-5, 1 R, 1 K
  • RF Tyler Austin: 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB — just his fourth extra-base hit in the last 19 games
  • C J.R. Murphy: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 K, 1 PB — hit a grand slam as well
  • LHP Matt Tracy: 5.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 8 K, 7/1 GB/FB — 62 of 102 pitches were strikes (61%) … like I said last time, he’s either very good or just awful
  • RHP Danny Burawa: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 1/1 GB/FB — only ten of 25 pitches were strikes … 20 walks in 26.2 innings
  • RHP Branden Pinder: 1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 1 HB, 0/1 GB/FB — 16 of 27 pitches were strikes (60%)

High-A Tampa (3-2 win over Dunedin in 13 innings, walk-off style)

  • CF Mason Williams: 0-6
  • DH Angelo Gumbs: 2-6, 1 K — 15-for-49 (.306) since coming off the DL
  • 2B Rob Refsnyder: 0-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K, 2 SB
  • C Gary Sanchez: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K — five two-hit games in his last nine contests
  • LF Ben Gamel: 1-4, 2 BB, 2 K
  • SS Carmen Angelini: 3-6, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 K, 1 E (throwing) — walk-off single
  • RHP Charlie Short: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, 2/2 GB/FB — walked just seven batters total coming into the game

Low-A Charleston (5-4 win over Greenville)

  • CF Jake Cave: 0-4, 1 R, 1 K, 1 SB
  • 1B Greg Bird:  1-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 E (missed catch) — left the game for an unknown reason in the ninth
  • 3B Dante Bichette Jr.: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
  • C Peter O’Brien: 1-2, 2 R, 2 BB — eleven walks in his last ten games
  • RF Taylor Dugas: 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB — got picked off first … 48/77 K/BB in 99 games since signing last year
  • RHP Rafael DePaula: 4 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 1 WP, 1/3 GB/FB — 58 of 89 pitches were strikes (65%) … second straight game with six or fewer strikeouts … bust!
  • LHP Dietrich Enns: 3 IP, zeroes, 5 K, 2/0 GB/FB — 26 of 37 pitches were strikes (70%) … 48/11 K/BB in 28.1 innings for last year’s 19th rounder
