The Yankees have managed to pick up two games in the wildcard race these last two days, but as I’ve been saying for a few weeks now, the team can’t sit around and feel good about things. They still have some ground to make up and not much time to do it. Finish this series with a win tonight and head up to Boston for what will surely be another hellacious weekend with the Red Sox. Here’s the lineup Joe Girardi is running out there against left-hander Wei-Yin Chen:

  1. CF Brett Gardner
  2. DH Alex Rodriguez
  3. LF Alfonso Soriano
  4. 2B Robinson Cano
  5. RF Vernon Wells
  6. 3B Eduardo Nunez
  7. 1B Mark Reynolds
  8. SS Brendan Ryan
  9. C Chris Stewart

And on the mound is right-hander Phil Hughes. He needs to not suck tonight. Simple as that.

It has been raining in Baltimore pretty much all day, but it’s supposed to clear up tonight. They should be able to get the full game in. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm ET and can be seen on YES locally and MLB Network nationally. Enjoy.

Injury Update: Austin Romine (concussion) feels “much better” but is still not close to returning. He needs to pass a series of tests before being allowed to play again … Boone Logan (elbow) will try to play catch today. What do I have to lose besides my career?” he said to Andy McCullough.

Update (6:51pm): Well, scratch that. It’s pouring in Baltimore and the game will start in a delay. No word on a start time.

Update (7:54pm): First pitch is scheduled for 8:20pm ET.
