Some notes:

  • Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) did not play for High-A Tampa tonight as planned. Brian Cashman told Erik Boland everything is “all good” and they’re just bringing Ellsbury along slowly, so I guess that means more rehab and not a return to the Yankees tomorrow.
  • 3B Eric Jagielo does not need surgery for the “loose bodies” in his knee, according to Nick Peruffo. He’ll head to Tampa for rehab and the doctors think he might be able to play later this season. Hooray for getting good injury news for once.
  • The Yankees have signed OF Rico Noel and assigned him to Triple-A Scranton, reports Matt Eddy. The 26-year-old hit .242/.333/.288 in 33 games for the Padres’ Triple-A affiliate this year before being released. This is a “all our outfielders are getting hurt and we need a warm body” signing.
  • 1B Kyle Roller and C Austin Romine were selected for the Triple-A International League All-Star Team, so congrats to them. Here’s the full roster.

Triple-A Scranton (14-2 win over Pawtucket)

  • CF-RF Ben Gamel: 1-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 BB — sixth inning grand slam put this one out of reach
  • RF Aaron Judge: 1-4, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K — he was taken out of the game in the late innings, but I assume it was to get him off his feet in the blowout
  • LF Ramon Flores: 1-5, 1 K
  • C Austin Romine: 2-5, 1 R, 1 2B — just keeps mashing
  • RHP Luis Severino: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 4/5 GB/FB — 57 of 83 pitches were strikes (69%) … over/under on the date of his MLB debut is set at August 15th … what do you think?
  • RHP Jose Ramirez: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 2/0 GB/FB — 21 of 30 pitches were strikes (70%) … 41/20 K/BB in 35 minor league innings this year

Double-A Trenton (11-3 win over Altoona)

  • CF Jake Cave: 1-4, 2 RBI
  • 1B Greg Bird: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 HBP — 10-for-29 (.345) with two doubles and two homers in his last eight games
  • C Gary Sanchez: 0-5

  • 2B Abi Avelino: 0-4
  • SS Tyler Wade: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K
  • CF Dustin Fowler: 2-4, 1 RBI — two more hits, ho hum
  • 3B Miguel Andujar: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 SB — time to start hitting, Miguel
  • LHP Chaz Hebert: 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 6/10 GB/FB

Low-A Charleston (4-1 loss to Asheville)

  • DH Jorge Mateo: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB — three of his last five hits are doubles … too bad they span 24 at-bats (.208)
  • CF Austin Aune: 1-4, 1 R
  • SS Angel Aguilar: 0-4, 2 K — wonder if playing a different position seemingly every day is getting to him and hurting his bat
  • RF Alex Palma: 0-4, 3 K
  • RHP Matt Wotherspoon: 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 11/1 GB/FB — 53 of 80 pitches were strikes (66%) … last year’s 34th rounder has allowed one earned run or less in four of his last five appearances

Short Season Staten Island (2-1 win over Aberdeen)

  • 2B Brandon Wagner: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 E (fielding)
  • SS Thairo Estrada & 3B Drew Bridges: both 0-4
  • RHP Yoel Espinal: 3.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 5/0 GB/FB — 42 of 66 pitches were strikes (64%)

Rookie level GCL Yanks1 (9-8 win over GCL Astros, walk-off style)

  • CF Terrance Robertson: 3-6, 2 R, 1 RBI — reached base on a walk-off error
  • SS Danienger Perez: 1-3, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 E (throwing)
  • 3B Donny Sands: 2-4, 3 RBI, 1 E (fielding) — this year’s eighth rounder is hitting an even .300 through eight pro games
  • LF Trey Amburgey: 1-3, 1 R, 2 BB
  • RF Leonardo Molina: 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI — 5-for-12 (.417) in his last four games
  • RHP Abel Duarte: 6 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 6/7 GB/FB
