- As expected, Aroldis Chapman was suspended under the league’s domestic violence policy. He received a 30-game ban and will not appeal. Andrew Miller will “absolutely” close during Chapman’s suspension. No surprise there.
- The Yankees are planning to use their final bench spot on a backup third baseman. Joe Girardi indicated the backup catcher competition is between Gary Sanchez and Austin Romine.
- Injury Updates: Brett Gardner (wrist) continues to take batting practice. Nathan Eovaldi (groin) threw live batting practice and will make his Grapefruit League debut Thursday. Domingo German (elbow) has nerve irritation and will be shut down for at least two weeks.
- The Yankees signed Chris Denorfia to a minor league deal. Brian Cashman was coy about the team’s interest in Shohei Otani, saying they “look at everything internationally.”
- Jose Campos will continue to work as a starting pitcher in 2016. The Yankees have the 18th pick in the 2016 draft.
- Hal Steinbrenner made it clear he is not looking to sell the team.
