Game 127: The Biggest Series of the Season (To Date)
Yankees clobber Orioles 14-4 behind Sanchez and Cessa

Two quick notes:

  • LHP Dietrich Enns will work out of the bullpen for the foreseeable future, reports Shane Hennigan. The Yankees are limiting his innings. Enns has already thrown a career high 131 innings this season — his previous career high was 100.1 innings way back in 2012 — and he just came back from Tommy John surgery last year.
  • LHP Jordan Montgomery made an appearance in today’s Prospect Report, so check that out. He’s been phenomenal since arriving in Triple-A and is putting himself in position to be a call-up candidate at some point next season.

Triple-A Scranton (7-1 loss to Rochester) their magic number is three, but all they need to do is beat Rochester once this weekend to clinch a postseason spot … their canceled game Sunday means Rochester would not be able to catch Scranton in the loss column as soon as the RailRiders get that one win

  • Ben Gamel & DH Kyle Higashioka: both 0-4, 1 K — Gamel’s hitting streak was snapped at 15 games
  • RF Cesar Puello: 3-4
  • LF Clint Frazier: 0-4, 2 K
  • LHP Richard Bleier: 4 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 WP, 5/1 GB/FB — 50 of 69 pitches were strikes (72%) … getting stretched out now so he can be the long man in September
  • RHP Johnny Barbato: 2 IP, zeroes, 3 K, 2/1 GB/FB — 22 of 34 pitches were strikes (65%) … 41/20 K/BB in 43.1 innings here
  • LHP Tyler Webb: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K — 26 of 46 pitches were strikes (57%)
  • RHP Jonathan Holder: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 0/1 GB/FB — eleven of 18 pitches were strikes (61%) … 89/7 K/BB in 61.1 total innings this season, which is bonkers

Double-A Trenton (9-6 loss to Portland)

  • SS Tyler Wade: 1-5, 1 SB
  • CF Dustin Fowler: 1-5, 1 R, 1 2B
  • 3B Miguel Andujar: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 E (throwing) — four of his last seven hits have been doubles
  • RF Billy McKinney: 1-3, 2 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB — third homer in 26 games since the trade … he hit one homer in 88 games with the Cubs before the trade
  • 2B Abi Avelino: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K
  • RHP Kyle Haynes: 5 IP, 10 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 WP, 6/5 GB/FB — 55 of 89 pitches were strikes (62%)
  • RHP Mark Montgomery: 2.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 1/3 GB/FB — 35 of 49 pitches were strikes (71%)

High-A Tampa (7-6 win over Brevard County)

  • CF Jeff Hendrix: 0-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K
  • 2B Thairo Estrada: 3-4, 3 R, 2 2B — hitting .281/.344/.358 as a 20-year-old in High-A is pretty darn impressive … he’s at .282/.338/.380 overall this season
  • SS Gleyber Torres: 2-3, 2 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 BB — second dinger since the trade
  • LF Trey Amburgey: 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K, 1 CS — two homers in 64 games this year after five homers in 58 games last year
  • DH Rashad Crawford: 0-4, 2 K
  • LHP Josh Rogers: 6.1 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 1 HB, 2/5 GB/FB — 64 of 87 pitches were strikes (74%) … 115/22 K/BB in 136.1 innings

Low-A Charleston (4-2 loss to Hickory)

  • DH Kyle Holder: 2-5, 1 R — 19-for-61 (.311) in 15 games since coming off the DL
  • SS Hoy Jun Park: 1-3, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 E (fielding)
  • 3B Mandy Alvarez: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 E (fielding)
  • RF Jhalan Jackson: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
  • C Luis Torrens: 1-4
  • RHP Adonis Garcia: 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 1 HB, 9/3 GB/FB — 67 of 95 pitches were strikes (71%) … 68/12 K/BB in 72 innings for the 21-year-old
  • RHP Dillon Tate: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 4/0 GB/FB — 18 of 27 pitches were strikes (67%) … 9/4 K/BB in 12 innings since the trade

Short Season Staten Island (6-2 loss to Batavia)

  • 2B Nick Solak: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — the Yankees have a ton of middle infielders as it is … he’s going to add to the A-ball logjam next year
  • CF Timmy Robinson: 0-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
  • SS Angel Aguilar: 0-4, 1 K
  • RHP Jonathan Padilla: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 7/3 GB/FB — 54 of 85 pitches were strikes (64%)

Rookie Pulaski (7-4 win over Bluefield) second straight day without OF Blake Rutherford for whatever reason

  • SS Oswaldo Cabrera: 0-5
  • CF Estevan Florial: 0-4, 1 BB
  • RHP Spencer Mahoney: 4 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 2/3 GB/FB

Rookie GCL Yanks East (8-5 win over GCL Tigers East)

  • RF Brayan Emery: 0-5, 1 R, 2 K — in a 2-for-32 (.063) slump
  • CF Edel Luaces: 2-5 2 R, 1 RBI, 3 K, 1 SB
  • RHP Jairo Garcia: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 11/2 GB/FB

Rookie GCL Yanks West (11-8 loss to GCL Blue Jays)

  • CF Terrance Robertson: 2-4, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB
  • SS Diego Castillo: 2-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI — he’s really settled in the last few weeks
  • 3B Nelson Gomez: 1-4, 2 RBI
  • C Miguel Flames: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K — first homer of the season for Miggy Fire
  • RHP Alexander Rosario: 2 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 1 HB, 3/0 GB/FB
