Dellin Betances is working out away from the team as they await Friday’s arbitration hearing. Here’s proof. [Pete Caldera]
- Michael Pineda plans to throw his changeup more often this season, upwards of 20 times a game, and he was emphatic about fixing his issues with two strikes and two outs. “Two outs, Two strikes, whatever. I’ve got to finish,” he said. [Jack Curry, Bryan Hoch]
- Joe Girardi said it would be “pretty special” if Gary Sanchez could catch 130-140 games. That’s quite the workload. I’m not sure that’s the goal, necessarily. Masahiro Tanaka, meanwhile, wants to throw 220-230 innings in 2017. [Curry, Erik Boland]
- Hal Steinbrenner was in camp today. He said he loves Girardi, but won’t talk extension until later in the season at the earliest. Hal also said Alex Rodriguez’s role with the team could eventually expand. [Boland, Curry]
