Brendan Kuty spoke to Triple-A Scranton manager Al Pedrique about some of the top prospects on his team, so make sure you check it out. Pedrique is always candid. It’s refreshing to read.

Triple-A Scranton (5-3 loss to Lehigh Valley)

  • SS Tyler Wade: 2-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 K — hitting .298/.362/.340 through 23 games, which is pretty much the quintessential Tyler Wade batting line
  • DH Gary Sanchez: 2-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI — he’s on his way to Chicago to join the Yankees, according to his Twitter feed … Sanchez went 3-for-8 (.375) with a double and a home run in his three rehab games
  • CF Dustin Fowler: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 SB, 1 E (fielding)
  • LF Clint Frazier: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 HBP — now hitting .239/.340/.477 through 24 games, and it’s only a matter of time until the batting average climbs given his bat speed
  • RF Mason Williams: 0-4
  • RHP Brady Lail: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 5 BB, 4 K, 2 WP, 1 Balk, 6/2 GB/FB — 62 of 101 pitches were strikes (61%) … 22 runs (20 earned) with an 11/11 K/BB in 27.2 innings this year
  • RHP Gio Gallegos: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 1/0 GB/FB — 25 of 31 pitches were strikes (81%) … 23/5 K/BB in 13 innings this year after a 106/17 K/BB in 78 innings last year

Double-A Trenton (4-3 loss to Erie)

  • SS Thairo Estrada: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 E (fielding)
  • CF Jake Cave: 0-4, 1 BB
  • 3B Gleyber Torres: 1-5, 2 K — back at third base again
  • DH Miguel Andujar: 0-4
  • 1B Mike Ford: 2-4, 1 R, 1 E (fielding) — the former Ivy League Pitcher of the Year (and Player of the Year!) is 15-for-27 (.556) in his last eight games
  • RF Billy McKinney: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
  • LHP Justus Sheffield: 2.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 WP, 5/0 GB/FB — 44 of 74 pitches were strikes (59%), though one of the walks was intentional … second straight start with four runs allowed after allowing three runs total in his first three starts … 25/14 K/BB in 24.2 innings so far

High-A Tampa (3-2 loss to Dunedin in ten innings, walk-off style)

  • CF Jorge Mateo: 1-5, 1 2B, 2 K — ninth game in center field so far this year

  • SS Gosuke Katoh: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K — season debut after being bumped up from Extended Spring Training
  • RHP Erik Swanson: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 3/4 GB/FB — 61 of 94 pitches were strikes (65%) … 33/8 K/BB in 27 innings since coming over in the Carlos Beltran trade last year

Low-A Charleston (3-2 loss to Lakewood in seven innings) completed early due to rain

  • LF Estevan Florial: 1-3, 1 R, 1 K
  • 2B Angel Aguilar: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 K — got picked off first
  • CF Blake Rutherford: 0-3, 1 K — 2-for-15 (.133) in his last four games … he’s been pretty streaky early on
