June 5, 2017 by Mike Leave a Comment

DotF: Bird continues rehab assignment in Tampa's blowout win
Yankeemetrics: Power up, Pineda down (June 1-4)

Record Last Week: 3-4 (40 RS, 28 RA)
Season Record: 32-22 (294 RS, 224 RA, 34-20 pythag. record)
Opponents This Week: Mon. OFF, vs. Red Sox (three games, Tues. to Thurs.), vs. Orioles (three games, Fri. at Sun.)

Top stories from last week:

  • The week started with three games in Baltimore. Jordan Montgomery’s solid outing was wasted in Monday’s 3-2 loss. Luis Severino dominated in Tuesday’s 8-3 win, then Masahiro Tanaka got hit around again in Wednesday’s 10-4 loss.
  • The Yankees headed to Toronto for a four-game weekend set next. The offense hammered Marco Estrada in Thursday’s 12-2 win, though a comeback fell short in Friday’s 7-5 loss. The Yankees rebounded for a 7-0 win Saturday, then let a winnable game slip away in Sunday’s 3-2 loss.
  • Injury Updates: Aroldis Chapman (shoulder) is tentatively scheduled to return June 15th. Jacoby Ellsbury (concussion) is still experiencing headaches and will see a neurologist today. Greg Bird (ankle) has started a minor league rehab assignment.
  • Gleyber Torres is reportedly being groomed to take over at third base this year. Ernesto Frieri opted out of his minor league contract and Ruben Tejada was traded to the Orioles for cash. Jason Gurka was released as well.
  • The Yankees are considering extending the netting at Yankee Stadium.
