Chance Adams got the start and allowed a hit and a walk in two scoreless innings. Justus Sheffield allowed a run in his two innings of work, partly because Gleyber Torres couldn’t handle a hard-hit grounder. Brady Lail had a rough afternoon, allowing two runs on four hits in 1.1 innings. Jonathan Holder tossed the final two innings for the Grapefruit League save. Here are the box score and video highlights, and here is the rest the day’s news from Spring Training:
- Jacoby Ellsbury (oblique) and Clint Frazier (concussion) remain shut down with no firm timetable for a return. The Yankees aren’t going to push either guy this early in camp. Frazier will see a doctor tomorrow. Yesterday’s MRI can back “clean,” according to Aaron Boone. [Brendan Kuty]
- Luis Severino and Sonny Gray both threw simulated games today. Here’s video of Severino and here’s video of Gray. “Severino was good. Real sharp,” said Boone. Severino is scheduled to start Thursday. Chad Green is starting tomorrow’s game, which will be televised. [Coley Harvey]
- Domingo Acevedo has yet to pitch in a game this spring and Boone said the Yankees are trying to build his arm strength. Hmmm. Boone says Acevedo is healthy though. Acevedo, Severino, Aroldis Chapman, David Robertson, and Albert Abreu (appendix) are the only pitchers in camp who have yet to appear in a game. [Kuty]
- And finally, Russell Wilson left camp today. He left everyone in the clubhouse an autographed football, which is pretty cool. [Pete Caldera]
This is the daily open thread. MLB Network is showing spring games through the rest of the day, both the (hockey) Rangers and Islanders are playing, and there’s a bunch of college hoops on the schedule. Talk about anything except religion or politics here.
