- The week started with a two-game series against the Rays. Monday’s home opener was snowed out. Didi Gregorius had a huge game in Tuesday’s 11-4 win, the makeup game for the snow out. Luis Severino dominated in Wednesday’s 7-2 win.
- The Orioles came to the Bronx next. The offense couldn’t get going in Thursday’s 5-2 loss, then the Yankees had several players get hurt in Friday’s 7-3 loss in 14 innings. The Yankees rebounded with an 8-3 win Saturday, but blew an early 5-0 lead in Sunday’s 8-7 loss.
- Injury Updates: CC Sabathia (hip) was placed on the 10-day DL with a strain. Brandon Drury (migraines) was also placed on the 10-day DL. Aaron Hicks (intercostal) will begin a minor league rehab assignment today. Greg Bird (ankle) will have his stitches taken out today, and he’ll soon begin rehab work. Gary Sanchez (calf) and Tyler Wade (illness) are okay after leaving Friday’s game. Jacoby Ellsbury (oblique, hip) will see a specialist. Clint Frazier (concussion) is playing simulated games but has not yet been cleared for official games. Adam Warren (ankle) has returned to action after being hit by a comebacker. Ben Heller (elbow) had Tommy John surgery and a bone spur removed. Chance Adams (elbow) had offseason surgery to remove a bone spur.
- The Yankees claimed Trayce Thompson off waivers from the Dodgers, then lost him on waivers to the Athletics. They acquired Cody Asche from the Royals for depth.
