Yesterday did not go so well for the Yankees. Not at all. The Rays beat ’em in 12 innings to finish the sweep and, more importantly, Gary Sanchez was lost to a groin injury. He’s going to miss 3-4 weeks. That’s no good. Gary has not had a good season to date but give me him over anyone the Yankees could realistically run out there behind the plate the next month. Sigh. This bites.
Anyway, nothing anyone can do about that now. Every team deals with injuries. The Yankees are a very good team with almost unmatched organizational depth, and now it’s up to that depth to pick up the slack and keep things moving forward. End the three-game losing streak today — the first three-game losing streak of the season, that is — and get back in the win column. Here are the lineups:
New York Yankees
1. CF Brett Gardner
2. RF Aaron Judge
3. SS Didi Gregorius
4. LF Giancarlo Stanton
5. 3B Miguel Andujar
6. 1B Greg Bird
7. 2B Gleyber Torres
8. C Austin Romine
9. RHP Jonathan Loaisiga
2009 World Series Losers
1. 2B Cesar Hernandez
2. LF Rhys Hoskins
3. CF Odubel Herrera
4. 1B Carlos Santana
5. RF Nick Williams
6. SS Scott Kingery
7. 3B Maikel Franco
8. C Jorge Alfaro
9. RHP Vince Velasquez
The Yankees are back at Citizens Bank Park for the first time since the 2009 World Series. Good memories in this ballpark. It is cloudy and kinda cool in Philadelphia this evening, but there is no rain in the forecast, and that’s all that matters. Tonight’s game will begin at 7:05pm ET and you can watch on YES locally and MLB Network out-of-market. Enjoy the ballgame.
Roster Moves: In case you missed it earlier, Sanchez was placed on the 10-day DL and Clint Frazier was sent down to Triple-A. Kyle Higashioka and Gio Gallegos were called up in corresponding moves.
