What RAB Means to Me

Both RHP Trevor Stephan and RHP Nick Nelson were placed on the Double-A Trenton injured list recently. That’s not good. I’d say both are unlikely call-ups this year, but they are possible trade chips, and injuries could throw a wrench into things. Hopefully it’s nothing serious, whatever the injuries are.

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Game One (7-6 win over Syracuse in ten innings, walk-off style) completion of yesterday’s game, which was suspended due to rain after the top of the first inning

  • 1B-2B Brad Miller: 2-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — here’s video of the homer, which was a bomb … the team says it went 482 feet
  • SS Cliff Pennington: 1-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 SB — walk-off homer … three homers in 15 games … the MLB ball and Triple-A pitching makes for a hell of a combination
  • RF Trey Amburgey: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 BB
  • C Kyle Higashioka: 0-3, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K — first game since being sent down
  • 2B-3B Gosuke Katoh: 3-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 E (fielding) — now hitting .353/.431/.686 through 15 Triple-A games
  • RHP Drew Hutchison: 5.2 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 5/3 GB/FB — 72 of 107 pitches were strikes (67%)
  • LHP Rex Brothers: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 1 WP, 2/0 GB/FB — 26 of 44 pitches were strikes (59%) … 15/4 K/BB in 9.1 innings

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Game Two (3-2 loss to Syracuse in seven innings)

  • DH Trey Amburgey: 1-4
  • 2B Brad Miller: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 RBI — two doubles, a triple, and a homer in the two games today
  • SS Gosuke Katoh: 2-4, 1 K — five hits in two games is a great day at the office
  • RHP Raynel Espinal: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 1 HR, 3/0 GB/FB — 32 of 48 pitches were strikes (67%) … started the bullpen game in the second game of the doubleheader
  • RHP Jake Barrett: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 3/1 GB/FB — 21 of 27 pitches were strikes (78%) … 10/1 K/BB in 8.2 innings since being claimed on waivers

Double-A Trenton Thunder Game One (4-2 win over Erie in seven innings, walk-off style)

  • 2B Hoy Jun Park: 0-4, 1 K
  • SS Kyle Holder: 1-4
  • CF Ben Ruta: 0-2, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K — he’s been held hitless in five of 17 games this season and that’s hard to believe considering he owns a .393/.507/.557 batting line
  • 1B Chris Gittens: 1-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB — walk-off two-run homer
  • 3B Brandon Wagner: 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 HBP
  • RHP Garrett Whitlock: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1 HB, 1/0 GB/FB — 13 of 25 pitches were strikes (52%) … leaving the game after one inning can’t be good … with Stephan and Nelson (and RHP Brian Keller) all on the injured list, Trenton could be really short on arms all of a sudden
  • RHP Will Carter: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 3/1 GB/FB — 27 of 42 pitches were strikes (64%)

Double-A Trenton Thunder Game Two (3-2 win over Erie in seven innings) makeup of yesterday’s rainout

  • SS Kyle Holder: 1-4, 1 K
  • RF Ben Ruta: 2-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB — ten extra-base hits (nine doubles, one triple), 15 walks, and nine strikeouts in 18 games this year
  • 1B Brandon Wagner: 0-2, 2 BB, 2 K — hitting .138/.307/.328 through 19 games
  • RHP Adonis Rosa: 3.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 5/2 GB/FB — 42 of 63 pitches were strikes (67%)
  • RHP Domingo Acevedo: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1/0 GB/FB — 20 of 29 pitches were strikes (69%) … 13/3 K/BB 12.1 innings

High-A Tampa Tarpons (6-3 loss to Clearwater in ten innings)

  • SS Diego Castillo: 1-5, 2 RBI, 1 K — 15-for-46 (.326) during his 12-game hitting streak … he’s up to .200/.261/.313 on the season after starting in a 1-for-34 (.029) skid
  • 2B Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-4
  • 1B Dermis Garcia: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 SB — in a little 1-for-11 (.091) skid with six strikeouts
  • RF Isiah Gilliam: 0-4, 3 K
  • C Donny Sands: 0-4
  • LHP JP Sears: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 1/0 GB/FB — 38 of 58 pitches were strikes (66%) … first start of the season … he missed the end of last season with shoulder trouble and I assume that’s what kept him in Extended Spring Training to begin this year … the Yankees got him from the Mariners in the RHP Nick Rumbelow trade last winter

Low-A Charleston RiverDogs (7-2 loss to Columbia)

  • CF Brandon Lockridge: 1-4, 1 2B
  • LF Isaiah Pasteur: 0-3, 1 R, 2 K
  • SS Wilkerman Garcia: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K, 1 SB, 2 E (fielding)
  • C Josh Breaux: 1-4, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 PB — 8-for-25 (.320) in his last six games
  • DH Canaan Smith: 1-4, 2 K, 1 2B
  • RHP Luis Medina: 4 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, 1 WP, 1 HB, 8/1 GB/FB — 42 of 78 pitches were strikes (54%) … 15/13 K/BB in 14 innings … 16.3% walk rate, which is much better than last year’s 25.0% walk rate, so hooray progress?

The Short Season Staten Island Yankees, Rookie Pulaski Yankees, and two Rookie Gulf Coast League Yankees teams begin play in June.
