Luis Severino got the start and looked to be in midseason form, striking out seven in five innings. He did allow three runs on seven hits, but whatever. Jonathan Holder got five outs — all strikeouts — and Wade LeBlanc allowed a solo homer to Alex Rodriguez’s nephew Joe Dunand en route to the two-inning save. Good game, would watch again. Here are the box score and video highlights, and here is the latest from Spring Training:
- Judge will continue working out in left field, but it is “not definite” that he’ll appear there in a Grapefruit League game, said Aaron Boone. “I don’t want to have to move (Judge and Stanton), if I can. But in both cases, I need to prepare them both for that extreme situation if something comes up,” said Boone. [Pete Caldera, Bryan Hoch]
- The Yankees announced two roster cuts today: Miguel Andujar was optioned down and Estevan Florial was reassigned to minor league camp. The writing’s been on the wall for Andujar since the Drury trade. He’ll be back soon enough. Florial played quite a bit this spring thanks in part to the Clint Frazier and Jacoby Ellsbury injuries. I count 43 players still in big league camp.
- Prior to today’s game, the Yankees announced Andujar and Domingo Acevedo have won the 2017 Kevin Lawn Award as their Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. Previous winners include Sanchez, Judge, Severino, and … Rob Refsnyder.
- The Yankees are in action tomorrow night against the Rays. That game will not be televised. David Hale is making the start.
Here’s an open thread for the night. This afternoon’s game will be replayed on YES (7pm ET), if you’re interested. I suggest watching the first inning. Anyway, the Islanders and Devils are both playing, and there is all the day’s March Madness action as well. Talk about those games or anything else here, as long as it’s not religion or politics. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
