Yankees lose a wacky 11-inning battle to the Orioles 7-4

Triple-A Scranton (7-6 win over Indianapolis in eleven innings, walk-off style)

  • LF Tyler Wade: 0-5, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K — first game in the outfield this year … he started moving around as soon as Didi Gregorius returned, so I guess they were keeping him ready at short the last few weeks in case Ronald Torreyes got hurt or something
  • CF Dustin Fowler: 5-6, 2 R, 2 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 CS — walk-off home run to finish the cycle, which is pretty much the coolest thing ever … this is the first cycle for the RailRiders since Ramon Flores’ Opening Day cycle in 2015 … I do believe that was the last cycle in the farm system overall
  • RF Clint Frazier: 1-2, 2 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 3 BB — three homers in his last 12 games
  • 2B Rob Refsnyder & DH Mason Williams: both 1-5, 1 K — Williams drove in a run and stole a base
  • LHP Caleb Smith: 3.1 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 2/5 GB/FB – 37 of 67 pitches were strikes (55%)
  • LHP Tyler Webb: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 3/2 GB/FB — 18 of 34 pitches were strikes (53%)
  • RHP Gio Gallegos: 1 IP, zeroes, 1 K, 0/1 GB/FB — seven pitches, five strikes
  • LHP Chasen Shreve: 1 IP, zeroes, 2 K, 1/0 GB/FB — nine of 15 pitches were strikes … 12/0 K/BB in 6.1 innings down here
  • RHP Ben Heller: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 WP, 1/1 GB/FB — 19 of 34 pitches were strikes (56%) … 13/5 K/BB in 10.2 innings so far
  • RHP Ernesto Frieri: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K — 23 of 35 pitches were strikes (66%) … he’s been pretty much classic Ernesto Frieri so far

Double-A Trenton (4-0 win over Erie)

  • 2B Thairo Estrada: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 CS
  • DH Jake Cave: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 3 K
  • SS Gleyber Torres: 2-3, 1 R, 1 BB — first game back at shortstop … it was reported that he wasn’t supposed to start throwing until tomorrow, but I guess that was wrong
  • 3B Miguel Andujar: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K — his hits are like vitamins lately, one a day
  • RF Billy McKinney: 0-3, 1 RBI
  • RHP Ronald Herrera: 5.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 4/6 GB/FB — 58 of 87 pitches were strikes (67%) … very nice season debut … he hurt his shoulder in Spring Training and started the year on the disabled list
  • RHP Colten Brewer: 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 1 HB, 2/0 GB/FB — 22 of 34 pitches were strikes (65%) … very interested to see how he does from here on out … the minor league Rule 5 Draft pick is a fun little project as a starter-to-reliever conversion

High-A Tampa (4-0 loss to Daytona)

  • SS Jorge Mateo: 1-4, 1 3B, 2 K — 6-for-18 (.333) in his last five games after an ugly 2-for-32 (.063) slump
  • LF Jeff Hendrix: 1-2, 1 2B, 2 BB
  • CF Tito Polo: 0-4, 1 K
  • 2B Nick Solak: 2-4 — 7-for-18 (.389) in his last five games
  • RF Jhalan Jackson: 0-4, 2 K
  • RHP Taylor Widener: 5 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 4/2 GB/FB — 45 of 72 pitches were strikes (63%) … 23/9 K/BB in 22.2 innings for the reliever-to-starter conversion
  • RHP Zack Littell: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 4/4 GB/FB — 24 of 31 pitches were strikes (77%) … still stuck in the bullpen because they have six starters for five spots at the moment … I can’t help but feel like this is backwards though, Littell should be starting and Widener should be relieving because Littell in the better prospect (in my dumb opinion)

Low-A Charleston (4-3 loss to Delmarva)

  • CF Estevan Florial: 2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 K — got picked off first … he’s up to .284/.372/.444 on the season … he also has a 31.9% strikeout rate, so yeah … more contact going forward is the top priority
  • 3B Angel Aguilar: 0-4
  • RF Blake Rutherford: 1-4, 1 K — 6-for-12 the last three games
  • C Donny Sands: 0-4, 1 K
  • 2B Diego Castillo: 0-3, 1 R, 1 RBI
  • DH Isiah Gilliam: 1-2, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 BB, 1 K
  • SS Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RHP Adonis Rosa: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K, 3/2 GB/FB — 51 of 76 pitches were strikes (67%) … 28/4 K/BB in 20.2 innings … he had a 2.19 ERA (3.03 FIP) with 23.0% strikeouts and 4.7% walks in 78 innings split between Charleston and Short Season Staten Island last year… the numbers are great, now I need to find out more about the stuff
