An MRI showed that Derek Jeter has a Grade I right quad strain, Brian Cashman announced. He will not play this weekend and then will be re-evaluated after the All-Star break. It’s possible he may need to be placed on the DL at that time.
Jeter, 39, left yesterday’s game with tightness in the quad. It was his first game of the season following his offseason ankle surgery and subsequent setback. It’s fair to ask if the Yankees brought him back too soon after just four Triple-A rehab games, but we can’t know the answer to that. It’s possible he hurt the quad compensating for the ankle, that seems reasonable to me. But again, we don’t know. Hopefully he’s able to return to the lineup after the break.
