I’ve noticed a lack of Bobby Murcer over the last few months on the Yankee broadcasts, and today we found out why. Murcer, according to numerous reports, is suffering the effects of his cancer treatments. He recently faced a bout of shingles and hasn’t been up to the speed he prefers. Here’s to you, Bobby. Hope you’re feeling better soon.
Good news for Yankee fans on a dreary day in New York: Bobby Murcer, recovering from a brain cancer scare and subsequent biopsy, will return to the broadcast booth tonight. He’ll be resuming his full broadcasting role, according to the AP. Here’s to you, Bobby. Welcome back. (Hat tip to iYankees.)
Steve Serby of The Post conducted a Q-and-A with Bobby Murcer. The Yanks’ announcer says he’ll be back as soon as he’s strong enough.
While we know that Bob Sheppard won’t return to the Bronx until this summer, another long-time voice of the Yankees is out indefinitely as well. Bobby Murcer, The Daily News’ Bill Madden reports, will miss Opening Day. The side effects of his recent treatment for brain cancer has left him too weak to return to the broadcast booth. Murcer plans to return this year; he just doesn’t know when yet. We’re all hoping he gets well soon.
According to a statement issued through the Yankees by Kay Murcer, beloved Bronx broadcasting Bobby Murcer is resting after a brain biopsy procedure this morning. Murcer could be released from the hospital as soon as Tuesday, but results of the biopsy won’t be available until later this week.
According to a report in the Daily News, Bobby Murcer’s brain cancer may be more serious than doctors originally thought. According to e-mail Murcer’s wife Kay sent to friends, doctors have noticed something on a recent MRI, and Bobby has to go in for more tests. Our thoughts are of course with the Murcers, and hopefully, doctors will simply find scar tissue and not another cancerous tumor.
