Game 45: Facing A Possible Trade Target
Rangers 6, Yankees 4: Gleyber goes deep again, but Yankees unable to solve Hamels

Got a couple notes to get us started:

  • RHP Clarke Schmidt faced batters today for the first time as part of his Tommy John surgery rehab, according to his Twitter feed. Steve Givarz says Schmidt sat 92-93 mph with his fastball and 82-84 mph with his slider, which sounds about right at this point of his rehab. Last year’s first rounder is expected to return to game action when the short season leagues begin next month.
  • 1B Tim Lynch has been released, reports Matt Eddy. He was the team’s ninth round pick in 2016. Lynch struggled in limited time this year, but he hit .310/.368/.573 (173 wRC+) with 13 homers in only 57 games with High-A Tampa last season.
  • IF Vince Conde has been released as well, the team announced. He was the team’s ninth round pick in 2014 and he spent the last few seasons bouncing around as an organizational utility man. Conde hit .206/.308/.301 (80 wRC+) in 321 games with the Yankees.

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (7-6 loss to Pawtucket)

  • SS Tyler Wade: 1-5, 1 RBI, 1 K
  • LF Clint Frazier: 0-5, 4 K — d’oh
  • 3B Brandon Drury: 0-3, 1 BB — 3-for-13 (.231) in four games since being optioned
  • DH Greg Bird: 0-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K — 5-for-29 (.172) with ten walks and seven strikeouts in ten rehab games
  • 1B Adam Lind: 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 K
  • RF Billy McKinney: 1-4, 1 R
  • C Kyle Higashioka: 1-4, 1 K
  • RHP Chance Adams: 3 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 2 HR, 1/1 GB/FB — 48 of 82 pitches were strikes (59%) … feels like one step forward, two steps back this year … he’s up to eight homers in 43.1 innings this season … last year he allowed eleven homers in 150.1 innings
  • RHP J.P. Feyereisen: 2 IP, zeroes, 4 K, 1/1 GB/FB — 18 of 30 pitches were strikes (60%) … 18/9 K/BB in 19 innings

Double-A Trenton Thunder Game One (4-3 loss to Akron in seven innings)

  • LF Gosuke Katoh: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI
  • SS Abi Avelino: 1-4, 1 K, 1 SB — 18-for-20 in stolen base attempts this season
  • DH Trey Amburgey: 1-3, 1 K
  • RF Jhalan Jackson: 0-2, 1 K
  • RHP Jonathan Loaisiga: 3 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 4/3 GB/FB — 39 of 69 pitches were strikes (57%) … first start since May 9th due to a blister … I assume he was on a limited pitch count given the long layoff, hence the short start
  • LHP Trevor Lane: 1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1/0 GB/FB — 17 of 35 pitches were strikes (49%) … allowed three runs in 20 innings with Tampa … he’s already allowed six runs in two innings since the promotion to Trenton

Double-A Trenton Thunder Game Two (6-3 loss to Akron in seven innings)

  • SS Abi Avelino: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
  • 1B Gosuke Katoh: 1-4, 1 K
  • RF Jhalan Jackson: 1-3, 1 R, 1 K
  • RHP Trevor Stephan: 4.1 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 WP, 3/2 GB/FB — 50 of 73 pitches were strikes (68%) … just promoted from Tampa … last year’s third rounder is already in Triple-A, less than a calendar year after the draft … Stephan allowed nine runs total in seven starts and 41 innings with Tampa

High-A Tampa Tarpons (3-2 win over Charlotte in ten innings, walk-off style)

  • SS Hoy Jun Park: 1-3, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K — 20.1 K% and 16.8 BB% this year after 16.0 K% and 10.8 BB% last year
  • RF Isiah Gilliam: 1-5, 1 K
  • DH Alex Palma: 3-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K
  • CF Dom Thompson-Williams: 0-2, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — had the walk-off catcher interference
  • RHP Nick Green: 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 1 HB, 10/0 GB/FB — 55 of 96 pitches were strikes (57%) … ground ball rate is up to 68.1%

The Low-A Charleston RiverDogs were rained out. They’re going to play a doubleheader tomorrow.
