  • CF Mark Payton: 2-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 E (fielding)
  • SS Abi Avelino: 1-5, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 K
  • 1B Ryan McBroom: 3-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 K — go-ahead three-run homer with two outs in the ninth
  • DH Mike Ford: 3-5, 2 R, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K — 12-for-33 (.364) with five doubles in his last eight games

Double-A Trenton Thunder (9-1 loss to Harrisburg)

  • 2B Brandon Wagner: 2-4, 2 K, 1 E (throwing) — 7-for-18 (.389) during his five-game hitting streak
  • LF Trey Amburgey: 0-2, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — threw a runner out at second
  • 1B Gosuke Katoh: 1-4, 2 K
  • RHP Brady Lail: 1.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1/0 GB/FB — 25 of 38 pitches were strikes (66%) … back down here

High-A Tampa Tarpons (5-2 win over Bradenton)

  • RF Estevan Florial: 2-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 BB — 4-for-10 with three doubles the last two days
  • SS Diego Castillo: 2-5, 2 RBI — 9-for-20 (.450) in his last five games
  • LF Dom Thompson-Williams: 2-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 K — 16 homers in 82 games this season … he hit six homers in 120 games from 2016-17
  • DH Isiah Gilliam: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 K
  • 1B Steven Sensley: 0-4, 1 K, 1 E (missed catch) — in a 5-for-38 (.132) skid
  • RHP Albert Abreu: 4 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 1 WP, 1 HB, 6/1 GB/FB — 41 of 62 pitches were strikes (66%) … rehab in the GCL is done, so he’s back up here
  • RHP Garrett Whitlock: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, 2/5 GB/FB — 44 of 70 pitches were strikes (63%) … his best outing a while … I don’t think the piggybacking will be a long-term thing … eventually Whitlock will start again, possibly in five days

Low-A Charleston RiverDogs (4-3 loss to Hagerstown)

  • SS Oswaldo Cabrera: 2-4, 1 R, 1 K — had been in a 4-for-40 (.100) skid
  • DH Dermis Garcia: 1-5 1 RBI, 4 K — good day for the ol’ BABIP
  • RHP Roansy Contreras: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 6/3 GB/FB — 53 of 84 pitches were strikes (63%) … 2.22 ERA and 47/17 K/BB in 56.2 innings for the 18-year-old

Short Season Staten Island Yankees Game One (2-1 loss to Connecticut in five innings) completed early due to rain

  • LF Alex Junior: 1-1, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SB
  • C Josh Breaux: 0-3 — 7-for-29 (.241) since coming back from the hamstring injury
  • 2B Kyle Gray: 2-2, 1 RBI
  • RF Canaan Smith: 0-2, 1 K — hitting .152/.215/.263 with 32.7 K% and 7.5 BB% this year after hitting .289/.430/.422 with 18.6 K% and 19.4 BB% in the GCL last year
  • SS Jesus Bastidas: 1-2
  • RHP Frank German: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 WP, 0/1 GB/FB — 32 of 46 pitches were strikes (70%) … first time this year’s fourth rounder allowed multiple earned runs in an outing … 2.11 ERA and 28/4 K/BB in 21.1 innings

Short Season Staten Island Yankees Game Two was rained out. Not sure when (or if) they’re going to make this one up. Tomorrow is the final time they play Connecticut this year and they already have a doubleheader scheduled.

Rookie Pulaski Yankees (6-4 loss to Burlington)

  • SS Oswald Peraza: 0-2, 1 K, 1 HBP
  • C Anthony Seigler: 0-4, 1 BB, 1 PB — 8-for-34 (.235) with six walks and three strikeouts in nine games with Pulaski
  • CF Everson Pereira: 1-4, 3 K — 4-for-19 (.211) in five games back from a mystery injury
  • 3B Nelson Gomez: 0-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K
  • RHP Pedro Barrios: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HR, 6/5 GB/FB — 52 of 79 pitches were strikes (66%)

The Rookie GCL Yankees East had their game suspended due to rain in the middle of the second inning. Here’s the box score. The game will be completed on August 21st.

Rookie GCL Yankees West Game One was suspended due to rain with one out in the top of the fourth. Here’s the box score. Of note: RHP Jonathan Loaisiga made the start. He’s working his way back from shoulder inflammation. Johnny Lasagna threw 1.2 scoreless innings in his first game since July 2nd. This game will be completed on August 21st.

Rookie GCL Yankees West Game Two was rained out. The game was canceled and won’t be made up.
